For cannabis, a 70/30 pith-to-chip blend is the industry standard. Pure pith retains too much water; pure chips drain too fast. The blend gives you the oxygen-rich root zone cannabis needs while retaining enough moisture between feeds.
If your coco isn't pre-buffered, soak in a Cal-Mag solution (EC 1.0–1.2, pH 5.8) for 24–48 hours before planting. If it's pre-buffered, hydrate with plain pH-adjusted water and plant immediately.
Use containers with ample drainage holes — 15–25% runoff per watering is ideal in coco. Fabric pots work well as they prevent overwatering and encourage air pruning of roots.
Coco dries faster than soil. In vegetative stage, water 2–3 times daily. In flower, increase to 4–6 times daily in warm environments. Always feed to runoff — never let coco dry completely between waterings.
