Coco Husk Chips Block Canada
Triple-Washed. Maximum Aeration. Expands 75L.

Our coco husk chip blocks are manufactured at our own Tamil Nadu facility from coarse-cut coconut husks — the highest-aeration substrate available for orchids, cannabis, hydroponics, and greenhouse crops. Furthermore, they ship directly from our Cambridge, Ontario warehouse to growers across Canada and the USA. Every block is triple-washed and tested. As a result, there are no brokers and no aged stock involved.

Why Growers Choose Avee Husk Chips

Superior Aeration. Slower Decomposition. Built for High-Value Crops.

Air Porosity

~80% Air Porosity — Unmatched Root Oxygen

Coarse chip structure creates massive air pockets that fine coir pith cannot match. As a result, roots access oxygen freely between irrigations — which is critical for cannabis, orchids, and high-frequency drip systems.

EC Guaranteed

Guaranteed EC Below 0.5 mS/cm

Every batch is triple-washed at source before compression, then lab-tested. Consequently, consistent low EC means your nutrient program starts clean — no salt flushing required. Lab reports are available on request.

Chip Sizes

6–18mm Chip Sizes — Three Grades

Fine chips (6–9mm) work well for cannabis and vegetables. Medium chips (12–18mm) are preferred for orchids and anthuriums. Moreover, a custom blend is available for mixed aeration requirements — simply specify at order.

OMRI

OMRI-Listed — Organic Compliant

Certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute, these chips are free from prohibited substances, weed seeds, pathogens, and heavy metals. Furthermore, they are safe for certified organic farming under both USDA NOP and Canada Organic standards.

Longevity

Decomposes Slowly — Multi-Season Use

Husk chips maintain their structure far longer than coir pith. Commercial orchid growers typically report 3–5 years of usable life before breakdown occurs. In addition, they gradually release organic matter as they compost into the growing medium.

Ontario

Ontario-Stocked — Ships in Days

There are no customs delays and no container waiting from our Cambridge warehouse. It ships to every Canadian province and US state. Furthermore, pallet orders typically dispatch within 2–3 business days from the order date.

Husk Chips vs Coir Pith

Which Substrate Is Right for Your Crop?

How to Use

Ready to Use in 4 Simple Steps

Rehydrating our coco husk chip block takes about 20–25 minutes. One 5kg block expands to 70–75 litres of airy, structured growing medium.

1

Place in a Large Container

Set the block in a tub or wheelbarrow of at least 80L capacity. The chips expand significantly — so allow plenty of room before adding water.

2

Add 20–25 Litres of Water

Pour water evenly and slowly over the block. The chips absorb water at their own pace — therefore allow full absorption before handling the medium.

3

Wait 20–25 Minutes

Chips take slightly longer than coir pith to fully hydrate due to their density. Consequently, check that the centre of the block has fully expanded before proceeding.

4

Fluff and Use

Break apart gently with a fork. Then use directly as a standalone substrate, mix with coir pith for balanced moisture, or apply as a mulch layer around established plants.

Who It's For

Who Uses Avee Coco Husk Chips

Orchids

Orchids & Epiphytes

The gold standard substrate for orchids, anthuriums, and bromeliads. Medium and coarse chips (12–18mm) replicate the bark-on-tree environment these plants evolved in. Furthermore, superior drainage prevents crown rot — the most common killer of orchids in Canada.

Cannabis

Cannabis Licensed Producers

Blended with coir pith at 30/70 or 50/50 for high-frequency drip systems. The chip fraction prevents substrate compaction over a long growing season. As a result, root-zone oxygen is maintained throughout the entire crop cycle.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics & NFT

Low EC and high porosity make husk chips ideal for recirculating systems. They are compatible with all major nutrient programs. Moreover, they rinse clean between crop cycles — which makes them a cost-efficient choice for multi-cycle operations.

Greenhouse

Greenhouse Vegetables

Mix with coir pith for tomato, cucumber, and pepper production. The chip fraction maintains structure and drainage across a full commercial season. Consequently, there is no compaction even under high-frequency fertigation schedules.

Mulching

Mulch & Soil Amendment

Spread around established plants as a moisture-retaining, weed-suppressing mulch. It is OMRI-listed — safe for certified organic vegetable and fruit production. In addition, it improves soil structure as it gradually breaks down over time.

Reptile

Reptile & Terrarium

Chemical-free, pathogen-tested husk chips make a safe, natural substrate for reptile terrariums, bioactive enclosures, and amphibian habitats. Furthermore, they are popular with Canadian reptile keepers who need a clean, inert, and long-lasting bedding option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coco Husk Chips Block — Questions Answered

These are the most common questions from Canadian and US growers. Don't see yours? Ask us directly.

What is the difference between coco husk chips and coco coir pith? +
Coir pith is the fine, sponge-like material from inside the coconut husk — it offers high moisture retention but lower aeration. Husk chips, on the other hand, are coarse pieces of the actual husk shell — they provide high aeration, lower moisture retention, and much slower decomposition. As a result, many growers blend the two for balanced performance across a full growing season.
What chip size should I use for orchids? +
Medium to coarse chips (12–18mm) are standard for orchids and epiphytes. This size replicates natural bark-on-tree growing conditions, provides excellent drainage, and prevents root rot. Fine chips (6–9mm), in contrast, are better suited for cannabis and vegetable blends where more moisture retention is needed.
Are your husk chips OMRI-listed? +
Yes. Our coco husk chip blocks are OMRI-listed and certified for use in organic production under the USDA National Organic Program and Canada Organic standards. Furthermore, they are free from prohibited substances, synthetic inputs, and heavy metals — making them suitable for the most stringent organic certification requirements.
How long do husk chips last before breaking down? +
Husk chips decompose much more slowly than coir pith. In commercial orchid production, growers typically get 3–5 years before significant breakdown occurs. In cannabis or vegetable systems with high-frequency irrigation, expect 1–2 full seasons of structural integrity before replacement is needed.
Can I blend husk chips with coir pith? +
Yes — this is very common practice. A 70% pith / 30% chips blend gives a balance of moisture retention and aeration that is ideal for cannabis and tomato. A 50/50 blend, on the other hand, is popular for peppers and cucumbers. Furthermore, we can supply pre-blended at the time of order for your convenience.
Do you ship coco husk chips to the USA? +
Yes. We ship from our Cambridge, Ontario warehouse to all 50 US states. Cross-border LTL freight handles pallets, while parcel courier is used for smaller orders. Contact us for a freight quote to your specific location.

Buy Coco Husk Chips in Canada — Factory-Direct from Avee Cocoseller

Avee Cocoseller's coco husk chips blocks are Canada's best-value factory-direct high-aeration substrate. We manufacture at our own coconut processing facility in Tamil Nadu — triple-washing and compressing each batch before shipping directly to our Cambridge, Ontario warehouse for same-week dispatch to Canadian and US growers.

Why Husk Chips Beat Pine Bark for Orchids in Canada

Pine bark is the traditional orchid substrate in North America, but it degrades quickly in high-humidity greenhouse conditions and carries inconsistent EC and pH. In contrast, coconut husk chips offer the same chunky, air-rich structure, decompose more slowly, and arrive with a documented EC below 0.5 mS/cm. As a result, Canadian orchid growers are switching rapidly — driven by availability, consistency, and OMRI certification. For more on orchid substrate requirements, see the RHS guide to growing orchids.
