Technical Substrate Specification

Technical Coco Coir Supply for Guelph Growers and Nurseries

Coco pith, husk chip, and blended substrates specified and documented for commercial greenhouse, nursery, and controlled-environment production in Guelph and Wellington County. Provide your target EC, pH, and format, and we'll confirm what we can produce, document, and deliver.

<0.5 mS/cmEC ceiling, washed pith, per-batch tested
5.5–6.5pH range, measured per batch
5:1Compression — 5 kg block ≈ 70–75 L expanded
4 formatsBlocks, husk chips, propagation cubes, custom blends

Regional context: Wellington County runs a large, measurable agricultural economy — roughly 5% of Ontario's field crop production from a fraction of a percent of its land area, plus a concentrated dairy, poultry, and hog sector (Wellington Advertiser, June 2023, reporting a county economic-impact study). Guelph also hosts University of Guelph research infrastructure focused on controlled-environment and plant science work, including its Controlled Environment Systems Research Facility. We reference this only as context for the kind of technical, documentation-driven buyer this page is written for. Avee has no supply relationship, partnership, or affiliation with the University of Guelph, its departments, or its research facilities, and none is implied here.

Specify Your Substrate

Start from what your operation actually needs, not a product name.

Bag Culture / Greenhouse Production

Need a structured pith:chip blend for slab or bag culture with defined drainage and aeration?

Propagation / Cutting Establishment

Need a finer, more water-retentive medium for rooting or seedling establishment?

Raw Component for Your Own Mix

Formulating your own blend and need washed, buffered pith or chip as a raw input?

Non-Standard Specification

Need a dimension, drainage pattern, or EC/pH target outside the standard range?

What "Batch Documentation" Means

Every production batch is tracked with EC and pH readings and process notes tied to that batch. Batch documentation is available on request and can typically be provided before you place an order, so your technical or QA team can review it as part of your own approval process — not after the product has already shipped.

If your organization requires a specific document format — a formal Certificate of Analysis template, a particular parameter list, or third-party lab results — tell us at quotation stage and we'll confirm what we can provide for that specific order.

Choosing Your Pith:Chip Ratio

Coco Pith

Holds water and buffers root-zone moisture. The dominant component in general growing media and the base of most blends.

Coco Husk Chip

Adds structure, air-filled porosity, and faster drainage. Used to open up a mix for high-frequency fertigation or heavier substrates.

A commonly used commercial starting formulation is 70% pith to 30% chip, but the right ratio depends on your crop, irrigation frequency, and container/bag geometry — a high-frequency fertigation system in a tight bag can tolerate a coarser mix than a hand-watered container. Tell us your crop, format, and irrigation regime, and we'll confirm what ratio is feasible for your order. Custom pith:chip ratios, chip sizing, and drainage configuration are available on qualifying orders and are subject to production confirmation.

Fulfilment from Cambridge, Ontario

  • Head office and warehouse: Avee's Canadian head office is in St. Catharines, Ontario, with a confirmed warehouse in Cambridge, Ontario.
  • In-stock dispatch: Products may dispatch from Cambridge when confirmed in stock at the time of your order — we'll tell you plainly whether that's the case rather than assume it.
  • Made-to-order: Custom pith:chip blends and non-standard dimensions follow the production and freight schedule set out in your quotation, typically involving production at our Pollachi or Peravurani, Tamil Nadu facilities before shipping to Canada.
  • Container-scale orders: Qualifying container-volume orders may be quoted for direct shipment from India rather than routed through Cambridge.
  • Pickup: Cambridge pickup can be discussed as a pre-arranged option, subject to confirmation — it isn't a standing service.
  • Freight estimate: Transit depends on product, quantity, and destination. Provide your delivery postal code for a current freight estimate.

What to Send for a Fast, Accurate Quote

  1. Crop or application (e.g., greenhouse tomato bag culture, nursery liner propagation, custom blend program)
  2. Target EC/pH range, if different from Avee's standard specification
  3. Format and approximate dimensions (block, chip, cube, or custom bag/blend)
  4. Quantity — units, pallets, or containers
  5. Delivery postal code
  6. Required timeline
  7. Any drainage, hole pattern, or buffering requirement
  8. Documentation requirements (format, specific parameters needed)

Specialist FAQ

What EC and pH does Avee coco coir test at, and how is it verified?

Washed pith is tested to below 0.5 mS/cm EC and 5.5–6.5 pH per batch. Batch documentation showing these readings is available on request — ask for it before you order if your process requires pre-approval.

What's the practical difference between a 5 kg block and a custom pith:chip blend?

The 5 kg block is a compressed, washed pith product intended as a general growing medium or a raw component for your own formulation. A custom pith:chip blend combines pith with structural husk chip at a specified ratio (commonly starting from 70:30) for bag-culture aeration and drainage requirements. Tell us your crop and system and we'll confirm which is the right starting point.

Can I get batch documentation before I place an order, not just after?

Yes — batch documentation is available on request and can typically be reviewed at the quotation stage. Tell us what your QA or purchasing process requires and we'll confirm what we can provide.

Does Avee have any relationship with the University of Guelph or its research facilities?

No. Avee has no supply agreement, partnership, or affiliation with the University of Guelph, its Department of Plant Agriculture, the Controlled Environment Systems Research Facility, or any related campus or research site. We reference the region's agricultural research activity only as context for the type of technical buyer this page is written for.

Can the husk chip ratio or chip size be adjusted for my drainage requirement?

Chip ratio and sizing can be adjusted on qualifying orders, subject to production confirmation. Give us your target drainage/aeration profile and order volume and we'll confirm feasibility and lead time.

Where does my order ship from, and how long will transit take?

It depends on the product and your order. In-stock items may dispatch from our Cambridge, Ontario warehouse once availability is confirmed; made-to-order and container-scale orders typically originate from our production facilities in Tamil Nadu and follow the schedule set out in your quotation. Transit time depends on product, quantity, and destination — provide your delivery postal code for a current freight estimate.

Do you supply raw components for growers who blend their own media?

Yes — 5 kg coco peat blocks and coco husk chips can be ordered as raw components rather than a finished blend, at pallet or container scale.

Is "factory-direct" the same as delivered locally from Guelph or Cambridge?

No. "Factory-direct" describes the commercial supply relationship — you're buying from Avee's own manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu rather than through an importer/reseller markup. It's not a claim about local delivery origin; dispatch point and transit are always confirmed per order.
