The 70/30 ratio describes the share of coco pith and husk chips, but it does not by itself predict the final air-filled porosity, water-holding capacity or irrigation response. Chip grading, pith texture, compression, container height and drainage openings all affect how the substrate behaves after hydration.
A pith-led blend can provide a stable moisture reserve while the chip fraction introduces larger pores and helps maintain structure. It may be considered for commercial grow bags, slabs and containers where the crop requires dependable hydration without relying on fine pith alone. Suitability still needs to be matched to crop duration, root density, greenhouse climate and irrigation strategy.
Two products both described as 70/30 can perform differently when their particle distribution, washing, buffering or compression varies. Ask for the applicable specification and batch documentation, then validate the selected format under your own irrigation programme.
